Google Maps for Windows Mobile was recently updated to 3.3.1 which solved a Layers issue that caused the phone to crash. Besides solving the Layers issue, it turns out that it also brought support for HTC HD2’s digital compass. Yes, that’s right now you can use the digital compass on your Google Maps app for Windows Mobile.

The location dot changes into a blue arrow when you are in the My location mode. If you don’t see that happening, you may try walking and turning around a bit to initiate the digital compass.

The digital compass works only in My Location mode. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work in combination with GPS, and you need to have GPS turned off in order for the compass functionality to work properly. With GPS turned on, the arrow always point to north. Still great news.

It seems that HTC has inherited the leakage problem from Microsoft. I say this because HTC’s roadmap forAndroid phones has leaked out. First it was the leakage of a list that listed the future Android handsets that HTC planned and now this. According to the leaked roadmap, the OS independent handset makers will be releasing five Android handsets in the first half of 2010. This information was available via a leaked brochure that was distributed in Vienna, Austria, back in October 2009.

HTC Buzz

The 5 Android phones that will be released during the first 6 months of 2010 are:

  • HTC Legend (Expected in March 2010)
  • HTC Tide (Expected in April 2010)
  • HTC Bravo (Expected in April 2010)
  • HTC Buzz (Expected in May 2010)
  • HTC Salsa (Expected in June 2010)

HTC has categorized these mobile phones, as it appears, into three categories namely

  • Design / Lifestyle
  • Social
  • Performance

HTC Bravo belongs to the performance category, HTC Tide and HTC Buzz are touted to be social, whereasHTC Legend and HTC Salsa fall under the Design/ Lifestyle category.

We will be sharing with you the specs of each of these device as the day goes on. So stay tuned. More images coming up in a short while.
